FEBRUARY 19-23, 2014
Vector 2014 addresses creative practices that unpack the culture of gaming in its many forms, positing games as tools and inspiration for contemporary art-making and social critique. The festival features works by emerging as well as established artists from local, national and international backgrounds. The works presented engage the culture, politics, technology, and aesthetics of games playfully and/or critically. They cover a wide spectrum of media, including sculpture, film and video, installation, new media, print, textiles, and performance. Team Vector is committed to paying artist fees to all individuals and groups contributing to the festival, and to keep the festival events broadly accessible. Vector 2014 was curated by Skot Deeming and Martin Zeilinger.
For 5 days, Nearly 70 artists and curators participated in our multi-venue programming, which included:
3 exhibitions
2 screenings
3 panel discussions
2 evenings of live performance
2 workshops, and
3 community partnered events.
Vector Festival is a participatory and community-oriented initiative dedicated to showcasing digital games and creative media practices. Presenting works across a dynamic range of exhibitions, screenings, performances, lectures, and workshops, Vector acts as a critical bridge between emergent digital platforms and new media art practice. The festival was founded in 2013 as the “Vector Game Art & New Media Festival” by an independent group of artists and curators: Skot Deeming, Clint Enns, kris kim, and Katie Micak, who were later joined by Diana Poulsen and Martin Zeilinger.
