Does playing games make one a better game designer? Does distancing oneself from playing games inform a more critical perspective on the medium? Is the opposite true. Games + Art addresses the relationships between game based artists, game designers and game players. Many creators of game based works have been on record as stating that they are not game players in the traditional sense. Rather, their sense of play with a game is articulated through their manipulation of the medium itself. And yet, at the heart of creative practices in the medium are scores of fan based artworks and creative interventions. This panel, composed of a variety of practitioners, is designed to create a critical dialogue between the often troubled relationship of being both fans of popular games and well as addressing their troubling representations through creating new works of art.
