InterAccess is a non-profit gallery, educational facility, production studio, and festival dedicated to emerging artistic practices that engage technology. InterAccess’s mission is to expand the cultural significance of art and technology by fostering and supporting the full cycle of art and artistic practice through education, production, and exhibition.

Vector Festival is a participatory and community-oriented initiative dedicated to showcasing digital games and creative media practices. Presenting works across a dynamic range of exhibitions, screenings, performances, lectures, and workshops, Vector acts as a critical bridge between emergent digital platforms and new media art practice. Established in 2013, Vector celebrates its 8th anniversary in 2020 and takes place July 16-23, 2020.

Job Description

This is a part-time (25 hours per week) position expected to begin June 29th 2020 and end August 16th 2020. This role requires frequent evening and weekend work.

Reporting to the InterAccess Programming Coordinator, the Vector Festival Digital Communications Assistant will work closely with staff and curators to support the administration, planning, and execution of festival programming. The incumbent will receive support in developing and implementing a digital communications plan and will sustain an active presence on social media throughout the festival.

Key Duties

  • Working with InterAccess’s Programming Coordinator on festival administration and logistics in the lead up to and during the execution of the festival;
  • Supporting all festival digital communications activities, including: 
    • Creating pages on interaccess.org and vectorfestival.org
    • Developing social media campaign
    • Scheduling and live posting on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook leading up to and during the festival
    • Creating Facebook events
    • Creating and monitoring event pages and registrations
    • Sharing festival events to free listings, including Instant Coffee, Canadian Art Agenda, BlogTO, Artforum
    • Developing promotional materials for circulation by the festival’s community partners
  • Sustaining an active presence on social media throughout the festival;
  • Attending and supporting virtual events, including workshops, talks, performances, and screenings;
  • Documenting events (capturing recordings and screen shots);
  • Captioning video recordings of panels, lectures, performances, and other festival events;
  • Supporting partnership and promotional outreach efforts for programming;
  • Providing additional support to InterAccess staff, Vector curators, and web developer as needed
  • Other general duties as assigned.

Requirements

To meet Canada Summer Jobs requirements, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Please note, international students are not eligible participants.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Superior verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills;
  • A high level of self-direction and initiative with strong time-management abilities;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • The ability to take initiative and manage deadlines and a diverse set of responsibilities;
  • Working knowledge of web languages (HTML and CSS) and WordPress, and comfort working with Adobe Photoshop.

Hours of Work

This position is a seven-week contract, working 25 hours/week on a Monday-Friday schedule. Frequent evenings and weekends will be required, with increased hours during Vector Festival.

Compensation

$16.00/hour
